Nicholas Smiths is a locally based; independent and privately owned company with a history of well over eighty years of service to Skipton and the dales offering keen prices AND excellent service.

Nicholas Smiths of Skipton will be 90 years young next year. Starting out in 1919 as heavy haulage business and at weekends the Charabanc fleet took chapel trips and many others off into the dales or even as far as the coast. On one very special day (29th June 1927 to be exact) we played a part in what was called the biggest mass migration in peace time Britain when thousands flocked north to stand under the path of the Solar Eclipse.

By the mid By the 1950s Nicholas Smiths made the transition into becoming a full time car dealership and moved into our purpose built headquarters. We rather liked the layout and location so decided to stay.

In the years following we grew steadily; gaining many car industry awards along the way but we didn't forget our roots. In 2004 another solar eclipse was due and Brett Dawson placed an advert in the local paper offering to mark the event; we were please to make contact with some people who had been part of the original trip back in 1927 and with the aid of some of our top of the range people carriers taking the place of the long gone Charabanc fleet we had a fantastic day out in the dales.

These days Nicholas Smiths is the main dealer for both Mitsubishi and Daihatsu plus as you would expect we continue to support our large and growing Renault customer base.

As for the wider dales community we are proud to support the work of the Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust who make full use of a pair of Terios compact 4X4's supplied by Nicholas Smiths.
